Joseph Cantamessa is vice president and Chief Security Officer Dow Jones & Company. He is responsible for all security operations at the Company's offices and facilities in the U.S. and abroad. Before assuming his current position, he had been director of corporate security since joining Dow Jones in November 2001.
From July 1999 until he joined Dow Jones, Mr. Cantamessa was a senior manager in Raytheon's Secure Information Systems group and from June 1998 until 2001, he managed Diversified Technology Services, his own security & consulting firm.
Mr. Cantamessa retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in June 1998 after holding several management positions with the agency during his 22 years of service. Most recently he was chief of the FBI's Investigative Automation Section from September 1993 to April 1995, before being named special agent in charge (SAC) of the FBI's New York office Special Operations division, where he was responsible for all physical and electronic surveillance, physical security and information technology. Additionally he had the coordinating responsibility of the New York FBI Evidence Response Team, the New York office Scuba Team and he was the FBI on-scene commander for the recovery of TWA flight 800.
From 1974 to 1976, Mr. Cantamessa was a staff accountant and auditor with Harris, Kerr, Forster & Company, a national certified public accounting firm.
Mr. Cantamessa also served in the U.S. Army for three years as an electronics technician and communications specialist. He is an advanced open water scuba instructor and a member of ASIS International, the International Security Management Association (ISMA), the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, the Vietnam Veterans of America and the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI.
Raised in New Jersey, Mr. Cantamessa earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Trenton State College and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.
